Gregg R. “Hippie” Nuttall will be visibly missing in many people’s lives. He remained strong and stubborn, but lost his final battle with Melanoma on August 6, 2016 surrounded by those he loved. A free spirit and legendary risk taker, Gregg lived life to the fullest. His love of the deserts of Southern Utah took him on hundreds of miles of backpacks and hikes, and the love for adventure created, among many other activities, black diamond powder skiing, numerous river trips, motorcycle racing, street bike riding, national Foosball championships and scuba diving with sharks in Roatan and Belize, playing chicken with a moray eel in Cozumel to deep sea fishing in Baja. He bought a sailboat and enjoyed sailing wherever the wind would carry him. Gregg was an extremely talented, passionate and accomplished musician and his music and stories will live in our hearts forever. He was born October 4, 1955 the first child of Gerald & Janette Nuttall in Albuquerque, New Mexico and then the family moved back to Salt Lake where he grew up with the Wasatch Mountains as his back yard playground. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1974 and married Vickie Simmons and they had a son Shawn, they divorced. He met Michele the week between Christmas and New Years 1976 and they immediately fell in love and created so many cherished adventures including two children, Ayla K. & Christopher Chance. Except for a short two year stint with Hercules Inc. Gregg worked construction all of his adult life. He established G&N Construction, Inc. in 1995 and flipped houses long before HGTV was ever thought of. His work was always top notch, he did not cut corners - ever. His remodels usually sold before they hit the market. His construction career introduced him to a lot of people and places. He traveled to Japan, Maine, California, Montana, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and many more and he always came back with a story to tell. It wasn't just a job it was an adventure! He loved his children unconditionally and taught them well. He got the nickname Hippie while working at Chris & Dicks where everyone was either a Cowboy or a Hippie and he was definitely more of a cowboy but he called the others Hippie so they put it back on him and it stuck, permanently.
Gregg is survived by wife, Michele Fredrickson Nuttall; son, Shawn (Amy) Nuttall; daughter, Ayla (Dan) Pratt; son Christopher Chance Nuttall; grandchildren, Danielle & Gage Nuttall, and Kyler & Koen Pratt; parents, Jerry & Janette Nuttall; as well as his sisters, nieces and nephew and additional family members. A special thank you to Inspiration Hospice for their exceptional care and a big hug to Camille.
